Rodent Bait Boxes

Why Pest Problems Keep Returning in Melbourne Homes

At Pest-Zap, we want to ensure that rats and mice don’t make your home their home.  We make use of rodent baits and bait boxes to control rodents as part of a pest control program.  Bait boxes are the safest way to ensure effectiveness and safety of rodenticides.

The benefits of bait boxes include protecting the bait from moisture and dust, ensuring the baits are attracting the rodents, and keeping children and pets away and safe from the poison baits.  Bait boxes also allow for inspections and to track the rodent feeding/activity.

Placing bait boxes strategically is important to ensure optimum rodent control.  Rats and mice will avoid stations, irrespective of the content, if not placed where rodents are active.  Stations should be placed between the rodent’s source of shelter and their food supply, as rodents are creatures of habit and will usually not vary from their ways.

We use different types of bait boxes.  The hard plastic box is ideal for exterior use as it is weatherproof, lockable and can be placed in the garden and around the home.  Cardboard bait boxes are used in the roof cavity, as baits should never be thrown loosely into a roof void.

The most efficient bait is an anticoagulant rodenticide.  The science behind these baits is to first dehydrate the rodents so they leave the roof and wall cavities to go back to their water source, which is usually the sewers.  Then when they drink water, the poison activates and the rodent dies off site.  The last thing you need is a dead rat in your wall cavity, starting to decompose and smell.

Pest-Zap will routinely inspect the bait stations as part of the rodent control program, replace baits as necessary and advise on other control measures.
